Caring for your hand-stamped jewellery
Thank you for purchasing a one-of-a-kind You name it creation.
We hope you LOVE it!
If you've ordered a stainless steel piece, some of the following won't apply, as stainless steel is hypo-allergenic and won't tarnish, rust or discolour, but you
still need to be careful to avoid removing colour from letters prematurely.
Please keep in mind, all silver will tarnish over time, even sterling silver, and gold and stainless will eventually lose their brand-new shine.
The air, humidity, natural oils in our skin and even light are responsible for this.
So here are a few pointers to help prolong the life of your precious hand-stamped You Name It creation.

So here are a few pointers to help prolong the life of your precious hand-stamped You Name It creation.
- Always remove your jewellery before showering or swimming. Freshwater, sea water and pool water can all affect your jewellery, and all will remove black from letters more rapidly than if your piece stays dry.
- Avoid spraying perfume directly on or close to your jewellery and wait until moisturiser or sunscreen has soaked in before putting your jewellery on.
- Be aware that underneath disks on layered pieces or pieces with charms are subject to scuffing due to the metal above rubbing directly against the metal below with your everyday movement. Consider removing jewellery before exercise to minimise this.
- Jewellery cleaner can be used, but can be quite harsh and you must take care to avoid the stamped areas so as to avoid removing the colour from characters. A soft polishing cloth is the best thing for removing any built-up tarnish on these pieces and your dress jewellery pieces.
- Treated polishing pads are available for purchase from You Name It for $2 each (+ postage), to get your jewellery looking brand new again. Microfibre polishing cloths are included with all pieces in our premium range. We do not advise using treated polishing pads on the rose gold and gold IP-plated stainless steel. Microfibre polishing cloths are available from You Name It for $4 each (+ postage).
- If the black has worn out your letters, click here for instructions on how to rejuvenate it.
